Inside Kepler’s New Soundproof Garden Music Studio

When you work in music, having a dedicated space where you can properly focus makes a huge difference. For music producer Kepler, that meant creating a studio at home that was designed specifically around the way he works.

Having recently moved into a new house, one of the priorities was getting the right music space in place. Rather than converting a spare bedroom or trying to make an existing room work, Kepler chose a purpose built garden room that could become a dedicated studio away from the main house.

The result is a fully customised 5.5m x 3m soundproof garden music studio, designed and built by Contemporary Garden Rooms.

A Garden Room Designed Around Music

Garden rooms are often associated with home offices, gyms and additional living spaces, but the flexibility of a bespoke build means they can be designed for much more specific purposes.

For this project, sound was naturally one of the biggest considerations. A music studio needs to provide a comfortable environment for long sessions while also giving the owner the privacy and separation needed to work without the usual distractions of the house.

The 5.5m x 3m footprint provides Kepler with a generous dedicated space for his equipment and studio setup without taking over the garden. Large glazed doors bring plenty of natural light into the room and create a connection with the garden, while the darker exterior finish gives the building a smart, contemporary appearance.

Inside, the clean finish creates a blank canvas for Kepler to make the studio his own as he settles into his new home and completes the setup.

Soundproofing for a Working Music Studio

Building a garden room for music production brings different requirements to creating a conventional garden office. Soundproofing was therefore an important part of this particular project.

The aim was to create a room where Kepler could work on music in a dedicated environment while reducing the amount of sound travelling between the studio and its surroundings.

It is a good example of why designing a garden room around its intended use matters. The requirements of someone producing music are very different from those of someone looking for a quiet home office, a gym or somewhere to relax in the evening.

By discussing how the room would actually be used from the outset, the specification could be tailored around Kepler rather than trying to adapt a standard design afterwards.

Built to Be Personal

One of Kepler’s comments after the project was completed was how much he valued being able to customise the room and work with the team throughout the process.

He said:

“Could not recommend Liam and the Contemporary Garden Rooms team enough. I had a 5.5x3m soundproof garden room music studio built and the whole process has been a breeze and couldn’t be happier with the result. Workmanship, professionalism and value for money is unmatched. Fully customisable, with the option to work with them every step of the way to get a garden room that suits any need. Wouldn’t go anywhere else. Class!”

That ability to personalise a build is particularly important with spaces such as music studios. There is no single layout or specification that will work for everyone. The room has to suit the person using it, the available garden space and what they need from it day to day.

More Than an Extra Room

For Kepler, this was not simply about adding another room to the property. It was about creating a permanent place to work, produce music and concentrate, with a clear separation between home life and studio time.

That is one of the advantages of building a dedicated space in the garden. The commute might only be a few steps from the back door, but physically leaving the house and entering a room designed for one purpose can completely change how the space feels.

It also means the main house does not have to accommodate equipment, speakers and everything else that comes with a working music setup.

Now the build itself is complete, Kepler can put his own finishing touches on the interior and turn the new garden room into a fully functioning studio.

Thinking About a Garden Music Studio?

A garden room can provide the space for a professional music setup without the upheaval of extending or significantly altering the main house.

Whether the room is intended for music production, recording, practising an instrument or simply somewhere to enjoy music without taking over the house, the important part is considering those requirements before the build begins.

Contemporary Garden Rooms designs each project around the space available and how the finished room will actually be used. Kepler’s new studio is a great example of what can be achieved when a garden room is designed with a very specific purpose in mind.
